    There once was a young lad named Gregor. He was very bright and always had a thirst for knowledge. When he was 21, Gregor Mendel entered the Brunn mon. Gregor Mendel is usually considered to be the founder of modern genetics. Though farmers had known for centuries that crossbreeding of animals and plants could favor certain desirable traits, Mendel's pea plant experiments conducted between and established many of the rules of heredity. In a secluded monastery in what is now the Czech Republic, a monk named Gregor Mendel was studying heredity in a garden of peas. Mendel, the son of a farmer, had always been interested in plants, and while at the University of Vienna he had been trained in mathematics and learned how to design experiments and analyze data.
